Gender Reveal: It’s a….

In the spirit of creating fanfare for baby #4, I thought I’d hold out on the gender for a couple weeks and surprise my family with a mini gender reveal party. There weren’t balloons, decorations, favors or invites…just cupcakes. With a middle filling representing the traditional blue if it’s a boy and pink if it’s a girl color scheme.

For the record, all you have to do is use boxed cupcake mix, put a dollup of vanilla frosting that has been colored with either blue or red food coloring in the middle of your scoops of batter into the cupcake liner and bake as usual. I frosted with a simple chocolate ganache topping, which is just semi-sweet chocolate chips melted in warm cream. (Heat 3/4 cup cream for 30-60 seconds in the microwave, add chocolate chips and stir until smooth). When the mixture has cooled a bit and thickened, dip cupcakes upside down into the ganache and yumm…the perfect chocolate frosting.

We let the kids attack their cupcakes with gusto to find the color and…

Marin found it first! “It’s blue!!!! We’re having a BOY!” she exclaimed with her very dramatic, projecting voice that I’m sure will make her an excellent high school thespian.

Judah was a bit more concerned about the consumption of his cupcake than the implication of it.

Lucia found herself a little messy, in typical Lucia style.

We couldn’t be more thrilled, especially to know that so far everything shows a healthy baby boy. We’re praying for his uneventful arrival early this fall.

Thanks for sharing in our little celebration!

PS) As a side note, the Chinease Gender Prediction Calendar (which takes into account the age and month you conceived and supposed to be just for fun), was right all four times! What?!

  1. Such a clever idea! I love how excited the kids were about the gender reveal! … and the cupcakes!

  2. Congrats girl! Very exciting!
